Autonomous Robotic Platform

C++Pythonsensorsnavigation algorithms

Overview

Built during my Erasmus year at the Polytechnic University of Valencia. The robot was assembled from hardware components and programmed to navigate autonomously, detect obstacles, and execute predefined trajectories.

Capabilities

  • Obstacle detection — ultrasonic and IR sensors feeding a real-time detection pipeline
  • Autonomous navigation — path planning that reroutes around obstacles dynamically
  • Trajectory execution — precise rectangular and curved paths using encoder feedback and PID control
  • Sensor fusion — combining data from multiple sensor types for reliable environmental mapping

Implementation

The low-level motor control and sensor reading runs in C++ for deterministic timing. The navigation logic is implemented in Python, receiving sensor events and computing motion commands. The two layers communicate over a serial interface.
